Tatio Geysers
”They say Atacama has its dangers and risks… which is full of treasures that the Inca left behind. When the Inca learned that spanish conquerors were not good, he ordered to hide all the mineral wealth. From Cuzco sounded the alarm and then, over the years, men of all latitudes who learned of these stories of hidden gold ventured through these lands. Is said that their souls are vents that rise each morning from the bowels of the earth, where they were trapped for daring to find the gold that belonged to others, to the Andean People.”
Fumaroles sighted in this beautiful geothermal field are a manifestation of Earth’s internal heat, evidenced by the action of water. It’s an infernal sight for some, and an strange paradise for others, at 4.320 m.o.s.l.. When water seeps into Earth, it interacts with deep rocks and extracts its salts and minerals. Most common salts found here are sulfides, carbonates, chlorides, borates and silica and common minerals are sodium, potasium, calcium and magnesium. You can find here many different thermal sources: hot water pools, thermal springs, geysers, mud pools, all of them reinforcing the beauty of the nature diversity in the altiplano. Enjoy the ceremony of renewing the arrival of the sun every morning when you reach this impressive geothermal field.
